In a potential 2010 election match-up Republican Governor John Hoeven leads Democratic Senator Byron Dorgan 55% to 36% with 9% undecided.
Senator Dorgan, however, leads another possible challenger, Republican Duane Sand, by a similar margin, 60% to 28% with 10% undecided.
Sand isn't even in this race really, I think.

Legislation has recently been introduced in the House of Representatives that will extend the current biodiesel tax credit from it's current deadline of Dec. 31, 2009.
Rep. Earl Pomeroy's (D-N.D.) bill, H.R. 4070 proposes to extend the $1 per gallon tax credit for five years.
Proponents of this bill argue that it's been a success because, shockingly, paying people to use biodiesel has resulted in bigger demand for the product:

The National Republican Congressional Committee is attacking three veteran Democratic congressmen representing conservative districts over their vote for health care legislation in television ads that begin airing today.
The ads go after Reps. John Spratt (D-S.C.), Vic Snyder (D-Ark.) and Earl Pomeroy (D-N.D.), who have emerged as tempting targets even though it's been a while since they faced competitive re-election bid.

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- House Democrats are retreating from a plan to move permanent estate tax legislation by the end of the year, spooked by high unemployment and budget deficits.
Members of the House Ways and Means Committee said that instead they hope to move legislation that extends current estate tax levels for one year.
They could then revisit a permanent fix to the estate tax in 2010, when other tax cuts enacted under the administration of former President George W. Bush are slated to expire.

An important tax incentive on biodiesel is about to expire, and the National Biodiesel Board is scrambling to get it renewed.
Biodiesel Magazine reports that the NBB is lobbying lawmakers to renew the $1-per-gallon biodiesel tax incentive, which encourages biodiesel use by making it competitive with petroleum diesel fuel.
NBB argues that if the incentive is allowed to expire on December 31, 2009, biodiesel will become cost prohibitive, and domestic production and use of the green fuel will end:

A lot of nonprofits, including Girl Scouts, are facing huge increases in pension contributions in coming years, a combination of two factors - the market crash and the 2006 Pension Protection Act, which, among other things, shortened the time to "catch up" underfunded pensions to fully funded status.
